Forest health and fuels reduction work is taking place around Mammoth Lakes this season as part of the Eastern Sierra Climate & Communities Resilience Project (ESCCRP). Shady Rest Park will be affected by this work throughout the summer with public closures kicking off June 1, 2026. Go here for details.
Shady Rest Park is an extensive and popular public recreation facility carved into a forest of Jeffrey pine at the end of the Shady Rest Path and Sawmill Cutoff Road. The park offers playground equipment, a sheltered picnic area, restrooms, sand volleyball courts, softball fields, green-grass soccer fields, a concession stand, a parking area and a small "street scene" skatepark designed for all ability levels. Picnic facilities may be reserved by contacting the Town's Recreation Department; visit the Local Recreation Resources page for more information. In winter, the parking area serves as a staging point for multiple winter activities.
